Description

Fret Finishing & Dressing File

This Fret End Finishing & Dressing File is perfect for final finishing work on frets.

This tool is used by all of our luthiers and is highly recommended by them if you are wanting perfect fret ends. It makes light of the final dressing process and will save time in sanding.

Features:

  • Superfine cut teeth.
  • 1 flat smooth side for finishing bottoms of frets.
  • 1 safety edge with rounded over teeth to protect the fretboard when finishing the round over.
  • Wooden handle made in UK.

The teeth of the Fret End Dressing File are much finer than the Traditional Crowning File as this tool is designed to get right up close to the fretboard as you dress the fret ends perfectly.  Two sides of the file are ground smooth and polished and then one edge is slightly rounded over and ground ‘safe’ so you can angle the file without worrying about damaging your fretboard.  The other side is left with teeth right up to the square edge so that you can file away the last little nib of fret end that always stays behind when using other tools.

Lovely file, will be getting all of the fret and but files from Crimson. Not necessarily cheap but worth every penny

You need a steady hand to operate and while the file looks very smooth it certainly can remove material.
Finished result is great and I certainly recommend, just be prepared to tape up your instrument!

I used the file for the first time on my sons’ new Squier Sonic Mustang. The fret ends were quite sharpish. The file worked wonders, the slightly rounded flat side of the blade protected the fretboard satisfyingly. Do pay attention to which side faces the fretboard. While both sides of the blade are free of the abrasive cutting teeth/rows, one side is dead flat, a 90 degree angle to the filing surface, the other one is slightly rounded. The rounded side prevents you from cutting into the fretboard, while the other side gives the opportunity to reach the smallest remaining tangs. Highly recommended!

Lasted just one time, I’ve used to roll a bit off my neck borders, the file went dull after, definitely Not Happy.
