back in the thick of things and we start off with Charlie's next perspex bass..
the tuners are installed..
which took longer than usual due to my first experience of installing a detuner..
this time I;m using a standard bridge to help with the grounding of the guitar.. here I drill the hole for the earthing wire..
the bridge is installed and the pickups placed in their cavities.. though they are not screwed in until the strings are on...
a graphite nut is shaped accordingly.. the scalloping has no real sonic benefit but adds a little something to proceedings..
the strings are then installed and she will now be left to settle for a few weeks..
with the perspex headstock (an engineering difficulty to be sure!!) I'm not too sure how she'll react to normal atmospheric changes.. we'll see..
..the workshop is in a state and a good few hours is spent sorting it out (while tripping over a slightly pregnant Rosie..)
..Andrew's custom 8-string guitar needs a headstock design.. 5 and 3
and four aside.. this one has wider spacing for easier access to the tuners..
..?
what do you thing Andy??
Amit's custom soft-top hollow needs rubbing down..
a labourious job but well worth it in the end..
Jasper.. he just looks so sad!! .. sniff..
while we're in the mood Fred's 45rpm is rubbed down..
unlike the soft-top she needs no more lacquer..
and so the buffer is brought out and she is polished
to a high sheen.. the ultra thin lacquer doesn't fill every pore and hole in the guitar and thus gives a much more natural look and a more resonant tone!
the back plates are carved and match the top..
..one of my favourite ever guitars.. I can't wait to play her!! All my best, Ben Crimson bespoke guitar workshop
