Well, things are looking up a bit.. and after my enforced leave of absence it seems that I am now back at work full time!! .. my broken foot has almost healed, but my modile phone will be un-accessible for a few days.. Giles ate it!!! (I think in protest against the lack of meaningful walks this month!!) .. anyway, I've managed to rescue last weeks workshop photo's.. and here it all is!!

32

here's where we left off, Erik's Touchguitar is nearing completion..

1

and in order to work on her I need my cast removed.. it's not often that I am on this end of a saw!!

2

work begins.. the pillar drill is set up so that the end of the drill stops a few mill shy of the stop..

3

and then the thickness of the top is marked..

4

and hand-carved..

5

the rest of the routing is completed..

6

the control cavity cover is cut out of a chunk of padouk..

8

carefully fitted to the cavity..

9

and then carved and sanded.. slick!! .. the veneer was also cut and is..

10

used to cover the pickups.. (custom wound Wizard humbuckers of course!!)

11

the sides are fine sanded on the bobbin sander

12

and the output sockets are drilled and chiseled to shape..

13

the battery compartment is recessed..

14

an then the whole beastie is sanded through the grits..

15

the first coats of wax are applied.. I love this bit!!!

16

it really brings out the wood..

17

especially after being polished with my new toy..

18

the frets are profiled and polished

19

and then the fingerboard re-oiled and buffed up..

20

the conmpensated nut is the next bit to be built.. out of ebony of course!!

21

and here she is... ready to go.. complete with locking Sperzel tuners.. both bass and guitar sized!

22

next up the bridge-system has to be assembled.. each piezo saddle will be direct-mounted to the body but the height adjusters will sit on this brass plate..

23

just like Jasper is sitting on Bud..

24

He just looks so comfortable!!

25

each saddle is marked prior to installing

26

and here she is.. and of course the pickups are installed..

27

the backplate and battery are in place

29

and then the final bit of luthiery.. the truss rod covers are cut out of more padouk.. (a timber that Warr Guitars charges a $400 surcharge to use!?)

30

.. the almost-touchguitar is born!

31

and is ready for wiring.. the cavities are shielded

32

and magnetic, piezo and MIDI systems are all wired in.. over the course of a very long weekend!!

33

she is set-up

34

And Erik plays his new touchguitar for the first time!! .. the words 'a cross between a Chapman Stick and a Warr guitar' were uttered! Bonus!

All my best,

Ben
