a long weekend spent trying to figure out our tax returns and they still aren't ready.. why the government can't keep it simple I don't know!! .. anyway, it shall be done sometime this week..

1

this is breakfast time, and Jasper is rather suggestively saying 'GIVE ME SOME!!!'... cute..

1

work begins again on Charlies bass, a minor setup.. the neck is still getting used to the new tension..

2

and then the vol/tone holes are drilled

3

getting there!!

4

the strings are removed.. once again..  and some fret work is the order of the day..

5

Rolly comes by for an infrequent visit.. I think he thinks there are mice in the area or something..

6

a couple of the frets are a bit loose and have to be re-glued down.. remember I'm not using the usual hammer and brute force fretting technique on these instruments..

7

but in the end glue works just as well

8

the timber bass has it's control holes reamed out

9

and it's back to Charlie's.. the frets are blackened with a permanent marker

10

and filed flat.. where the black is still visible is where the file is not touching the frets, therefore they are still a bit lower than the others..  the problem is that this heats up the frets and could melt the glue holding them in.. thus I take it slowly..

11

and start tidying up the machine room, this needs to be ready for major use from tomorrow as I start a few new guitars!!  Finally!!

13

the frets are each polished through the grits with wet and dry paper

12

and then the whole fingerboard is polished on the buffer..

14

and she's strung up... again!

15

I love the look of this bridge through the body... anyway, I mostly use shielded cable to wire her up to keep the hum down.. and after a while she is playing.. even through a horrible little practice amp you can hear good things happening!

16

another of my favourite bits is the headstock shaping.. it keeps the weight down as well as looking pretty!

17

the mahogany Warwick esque beastie is next on the wiring bench

18

obviously on this one I can shield the whole cavity..

19

and the display room ends up with two very nearly finished instrumnts..

All my best,

Ben
