As ever Monday brings with it a morass of phone calls and emails for me to wade through, nonetheless a fair bit if finishing work was completed on two guitars..

The original Vee Mark II was a natural colour but in the interests of having a really cool stand at upcoming shows I am only going to be taking red or black guitars.. therefore this beastie is stripped

and stained.. this is the first stain coat which is Orange

followed by a red candy colour which looks great..

after everything has dried the fake edge binding is scraped clean

the back is tidied up some and wax added..The purple-heart and zebrano combination here really works!

a few more coats of wax are added to the cap of this Robert Fripp Slimline model.. the cap is very porous Elm and sucks quite a lot of the finish in..

at this point I realise that a much better finish will be achieved if I use 1200 grit wet and dry paper to rub the wax in as it dries.. it takes several hours to do the entire guitar but is well worth it.

however wearing ltex gloves for that long gets uncomfortable and they fall apart from the friction.. says a lot for latex really?

My favourite bit in this RF Slim is the headstock veneer..

after applying and polishing umpteen coats of wax here is the result

the elm looks particularly lovely

but I am still most pleased with the way the back turns out..

a pretty and ergonomic guitar.,.. bonus!

This is one of our Descendant models, cross between LP styling and a pseudo tele.. on this beastie the finish is the master-stroke a camoflage oil on water type achieved using several layers of stain and then sanding through in random areas.. the custom distressed humbuckers from Wizard are ultra high output for heavy metal type music but as a bonus we discovered that they have a lovely sweet clean tone too with just enough brightness from the covers to create a truly versatile guitar... this one is currently available for sale as an ex demo- model..
All my best,
Ben
