There's a lot of catching up to be done, a days work lost due to familial duties.. still it's all good! The neck blanks are ready to be used...,

first off the truss rod channel is routed

then mark out the size carefully.. this is for the Vee Mark II and a Robert Fripp Slimline.. both multi-lam necks for strength, stability and tone... (advert over..)

chopped...

the headstock angle planed true, ready for the cap

the sides of the headstock are planed smooth ready for glueing the side wings on

like so.. this Vee will be painted with a three colour Chameleon flip/flop paint and therefore the wings are just glued flat..

this RF Slim will have a natural finish and has to look extra special.. so it's all angles..

and glued..

on to the Slimline that's been coming together this week.. the back plates are marked out on a piece of figured maple

cut to size roughly using the bandsaw and then filed carefully

carved and sanded to fit the contours of the guitar..

the control section all marked out

and drilled... we're nearly there with this one!

the headstocks are dry now and have been cleaned up and planed flat.. the tuner positions marked in place and the string-pull double-checked..

on both necks.. it's more important with a headstock which is symetrical like this..

rough cut on the bandsaw

and then we're interupted by this army helicopter landing 40 feet from the workshop in my neighbours field, scaring the shite out of three Shetland ponies that normally potter around in there..

the bobbin-sander is used to shape both headstocks

followed by the drilling out of the truss rod hole in the headstocks..

the sides of the neck trimmed down to size

and then filed and rasped to size

the truss rods are installed and then covered with some tape which helps stop any rattling against the fingerboard and also prevents glue from fouling the truss rod up

the fingerboards are glued on... and on to admin and updating the site..
all my best,
Ben
