Tuesday 15th May '07

these are the days I enjoy most, half spent almost completing a guitar and the other half spent completing the beginings of several almost guitars.. a nice spread of work to keep the job interesting..

1

the side inlays were glued into Roberto's RF Slimline model last night and here are trimmed and scraped down flush with the binding..  there's much tidying up to be done here as you can see..

2

the carving on the front has been marked out and is begun

3

meanwhile the first multi-lam neck blank has dried.  The excess laminates etc are trimmed off on the bandsaw

4

and then the sides planed to 90 degrees on the planer..

5

the dust extractor bag getting a bit full.. I've been known to fill it up in one session before!

6

a view..

7

the second of the blanks that was prepared, but not put together, yesterday is glued

8

and back to the RF Slim, the front has been carved and rough-sanded to 180 grit using the small Random Orbital Sander.. a tool which has saved me hundreds of working hours so far!

9

the back very very rough-sanded...

10

and an hour or so later it matches the front.. by this time the clouds overhead are ruining any natural light coming through the skylights above my bench and I have to call it a day on this one.  It's almost impossible to sand anything to the quality I need while using artificial light.. tomorow this guitar should be ready for the finisher.. weather depending!

11

the two neck blanks are now ready to be turned into four guitars.. a Vee and several Robert Fripp Slimline models.. fun fun fun...  tomorrow will be  shorter day than usual due to a trip to the airport in the morning, my younger sister is leaving for more interesting places..

All my best,

Ben
