Got wood?  Can you believe it comes this colour? Anyway, this is a lovely bit of figured purple heart.  This will be turning into a bowl-back Crafty acoustic..

2

and so will this lovely bit of Beli.. the zebrano-like section is the heartwood and the spalted stuff is the sap-wood..

3

this lovely bit of spalted beech is just here because it's so damn lovely.. it aint goin on the guitar..

4

each plank is chopped on the table-saw to a manageable length

5

and then on the bandsaw to a manageable width..

6

and ripped over the planer to give us a flat edge to work from.. at this point I stop to continue considering how the hell I'm going to put this one together.. more tomorrow!

7

On to the Vee Mark II, the inlay is cut out and the recess recessed...

8

and glued in place..

9

and then we begin the final sandin process...

10

by this time bud is bored and has decided to sleep on the pile of sawdust left from the planing of all that purpleheart and Beli...

11

the control cavity cover recess is routed out

12

and then we have a surprise addition to the To Do list.. this lovely early Vox, the problem is that the neck was very badly made out of sub-standard timber complete with a lovely knot which helped the whole thing to warp into something that could kill a kangaroo!!!  not to mention the fact that there is a 1mm gap on either side of the neck pocket!  Sadly this is emblematic of early Britih guitars.. still, over the next few weeks we'll build a new neck and see to several other minor repairs... needless to say this is the type of repair that interests me!

13

And in the process this album by the Atomic Chamber Ensemble was playing in the background... a jaw droppingly amazing example the guitar craft principles of playing!

14

back to the final sanding down of the Vee Mark II,,

15

the binding is scraped clean for the last time...

16

all the wire channels are drilled

17

and she's off to be sprayed... one down, 30 to go..

All my best... and more tomorrow!
