The ebony fingerboard on the 6 string baritone neck has been glued in place and the waste is bandsawed off..

and the edges planed to the neccessary dimensions..

on to a guitar being built for Andy at Wizard pickups as a test-bed instrument for new designs. the pickups will be moveable and it will take everything from P-90's to tele's etc etc.. it will be fun trying to make it look pretty.. The waste at the end of the fingerboard is removed using a Japanese saw and then a sharp chisel

the fretboard camber is planed on.. carefully and with much reference to the straight-edge

the fret slot positions marked out

and cut..

the fingerboard is then sanded through the grits with a small random orbital sander

On to the 12th fret inlay.. a sliver of abalone is glued to a piece of veneer to give it enough bulk to withstand my saw

the pattern is drawn on a piece of paper which is stuck in place with double-sided tape

and it is cut out using a fine jewelers saw and then glued to another piece of paper

which stops the padouk dust and glue mixture from gluing the whole thing to my workbench!

the cavity is marked out with a sharp knife and then cut using a small chisel

and glued in place.. for some reason I could not get a good photo here? I hate technology!!

the frets are banged and glued into place

the fret ends are then snipped off with a pair of wire cutters

and the ends profiled and rounded over..
At this point the rest of the day is takn up with a design meeting and a protracted trip to the vet.. more tomorrow..

I figured it was time to feature this fully tricked out Robert Fripp Hollow model on the site.. a bit more flashy than Robert would like but still a lovely piece of kit!
