Monday 3rd December '07

The week begins with some minor repairs... this beastie is humming for some reason,

so all the shielding is replaced.. along with all the compenents etc..

The office/wiring room/display area is no re-organised..

at some point all the guitars will be on the wall

but for now his works out just fine... some of these are now for sale at knock down prices.. I'm planning on having a totally new batch for next years guitar shows!

On to this Warwickesque bass.. the neck is checked against the template to acertain where the wings will be cut

the wings are marked out and then roughed out on the bandsaw

and then fitted to the neck through blank..

at around this time we generally get deliveries.. the boys are waiting for this as one of the drivers always has dog treats in his pockets..., a kind of self-preservation tactic that works wonders!!

The wings are glued in place..

and on to some more repair work.. the horrible plastic saddle needs replacing

with bone pieces cut and intonated for each string, this seperates the vibration of each string from it's neighbour and makes for a cleaner more vibrant tone.

the ffretboard is cleaned with Naphta and then oiled and buffed

the field behind the workshop now has horses.. and this genius of a little bird follows them around eating the insects that are scared away by the horse! Amazing!

New strings are installed and then she is set up and ready!..

Back to the bass... once the glue has dried I rough out the body shape on the bandsaw

file and rasp everything to shape where possible

and use the bobbin sander in the hard to reach areas.. this very dusty machine is one of the most useful I have!

In the end I have an almost bass.. ready for carving, routing etc..
ciao, B
